SPOUSAL / LAW PARTNER SPONSORSHIP

Through this sponsorship program, you can help your partner enter Canada. To be eligible, you must be either a Canadian citizen or a PR holder. When the person you sponsored becomes a PR holder in Canada, you are no longer required to aid him or her financially. To do so, you must have a solid financial foundation and submit tax returns for the previous year.

Reunion with your family in Canada

As a sponsor, you can bring your spouse, common-law partner, or conjugal partner to Canada. To qualify as a spouse, you must be married under the law (no virtual-marriage). For common-law-partners, you must have lived together for at least a year.

In order to support your family, you must earn at least the bare minimum. You will also have to sign a sponsorship agreement promising to provide their most fundamental needs. As a sponsored person, you must meet certain criteria, such as passing medical and security checks and being financially dependent on your sponsor.

Conjugal partner in Canada

A conjugal partner is a category of Canadian immigration for couples who cannot be classified as common-law or married. To be eligible, applicants must demonstrate a committed and exclusive relationship for at least one year.

The couple must prove that they have been prevented from living together or getting married due to exceptional circumstances. The conjugal partner category is typically used in situations where one partner is living outside Canada and cannot enter the country.
