What is PR card renewal?
PR cardholders frequently worry about losing their permanent residence status. Fortunately, there are measures an immigrant can do to keep their status in place. Cosmic immigration can help applicants to apply, renew, or replace their PR card status. Getting Canadian permanent residence status is a difficult process. After obtaining it, it is vital that you safeguard it.
Are you a frequent traveler?
If you frequently travel abroad, you may be putting your permanent resident card in jeopardy. Legal permanent residency can be revoked if a person has spent more than 730 days outside of Canada in the preceding five years. You will need evidence of continuous residency.
Returning to Canada from another country requires proof of permanent resident status in the form of a valid permanent resident (PR) card. It is of utmost importance that you keep your PR card in good standing at all times; this is your duty. A permanent resident card application is not required of new permanent residents.
When can you apply?
- Has the PR card already expired?
- Or is it about to expire in less than 9 months?
- Is your PR card being stolen, misplaced, or destroyed?
- Your card was not issued within 180 days of your arrival in Canada.
- A valid PR status is required for –
- If you want to make any changes in your name (legally)
- Want to legally change your citizenship status
- Make changes in DOB.
Want to change address in PR card?
If your application is still being processed but you plan to (or have already begun) moving, you can provide a new address at any time. If you have moved since applying for Canadian citizenship, you must amend your PR application with your new mailing address within 6 months of your arrival.
If you don’t, the card will be cancelled, and you’ll have to start the application process over again. Changing an address can be done in a few different ways, each one specific to the type of application and the location from which it was submitted. Get in touch with our agent and we’ll take it from there.
Documents required to get the job done
Replacement of lost immigration documents is possible for an additional fee. If a Canadian permanent resident card is about to expire or has already expired, the holder must submit form IMM 5444 along with supporting documentation to apply for a new card.
- A copy of your current PR card or your Record of Landing (IMM 1000) document.
- A copy of your passport, including any pages that show stamps, visas, or entries & exits.
- Two photos that meet the requirements for Canadian passport photos.
- A photocopy of any legal document that indicates a change in your name (if applicable).
- A completed application for a PR card, including the required fee payment.
- Any additional supporting documents requested by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada.
