LMIA-exempt work permit allows foreign nationals to work in Canada without the need for a Labour Market Impact Assessment.
Examples of non-LMIA based jobs include work under NAFTA or other free trade agreements, Intra-Company Transfers, Global Talent Stream, jobs in the entertainment industry, and jobs in certain research or academic fields.
An positive LMIA is a document that an employer in Canada must obtain from the Government of Canada to demonstrate that there is a need for a foreign worker to fill a job, and that no Canadian worker is qualified enough or available to do the job.

Northwest Territories: The Northwest Territories Nominee Program (NTNP) has a Work Permit stream that allows employers to hire foreign nationals without a LMIA.
