An ETA is necessary for international travelers without a Canadian visa who wish to fly into the country. It’s important to note that even if you are eligible for an ETA, it does not guarantee entry into Canada. Border services officers at the port of entry will determine if you are admissible based on various factors, such as the purpose of your visit, your ties to your home country, and your overall admissibility to Canada.
Citizens of the United States,
Citizens of countries that require a visa to enter Canada (they must have a valid visa to travel to Canada),
Citizens of countries that are visa-exempt and who were lawfully admitted to the United States for permanent residence (they must have a valid U.S. Permanent Resident Card, also known as a Green Card),
Citizens of France who are residents of St. Pierre and Miquelon and are arriving directly from those islands to Canada,
Individuals who are transiting through Canada and are in possession of a valid transit visa, or who are exempt from the requirement to obtain a transit visa,
“Even though you don’t need an ETA to enter Canada, you still must fulfill all of the country’s other entrance requirements, for example, having a valid passport or travel document and being admissible based on factors such as the purpose of your visit and your overall admissibility to Canada.”
Applying for an ETA online will only take a short amount of time. It may take a few more days to process your application if you need to provide supporting documents. Only one person can make a request and subsequent payment at any given time.
